It's okay to focus on the destination at times. I've dreamt of photographing our nearby road for 5 years but have never done it. I'm not much of a doer, I'm a dreamer. But I'm happy the post idea made me do it!
I thought about this question a lot after noticing you asking it somewhere. For me, the simple dream I never seem to realize is to lie down on a rock in the forest and do some sketching in my sketch book. I never seem to get so far, and the problem here, I think, lies within the thought of me primarily as a writer, not as a visual artist of any sort. Sketching, drawing... let alone painting are all things I don't have the luxury to spend time for, or so I think. I even bought a sketch book and two markers, but it was 6 months ago and they remain untouched. And the funny thing is that I bought two identical markers at once; wouldn't want to be in the forest sketching away and have my marker run out.
Using textiles and stitching as part of my art process has been a dream for years now.
But - I’ve sucked at textile work, knitting and crocheting since I was 7 (a LONG time ago!) so how can I possibly dream of even beginning to combine them to my art?
Oh Katriina - I feel the same! I would love to use textiles in my art as well! I did try it and it did not look great but when another person saw it she gasped and loved it! So I have started to let go of that thought of it looking exactly as I picture it to look and accept what it becomes! I can keep trying to improve of course but I have to let go and just do it (like Nike). Bets of luck getting started!
Love it, Gemma! The ideas in our minds always look better or different than the outcome. I think this is why we are often taken aback by our efforts and our motivation decreases. And we should JUST DO IT! I wish to see both of your works combined with some textile!
This is such a great read Nani. And those photos!!!! I could stare at the third one forever. The way it sits amidst that scenery. The light - foreboding yet inviting. So good how you capture that. There’s such movement in your images, even when there’s no movement to imagine. It’s just there, pulsing.

Oh, two markers, lol! 😁 You should absolutely try to make the sketching happen. Have you chosen the rock already?
I definitely should. And the rock is picked out as well, of course. Only me missing from the pretty picture. 😅

A doomed idea!?
That is a wonderful question! Maybe you need to trust your intuition and just give it a go. 😍

Penny, that is the first time anyone has told me about the movement thing. It’s something I see too! 😍
